PR: Imint Presents Enhanced Aerial Footage from Deepwater Horizon Disaster
Tuesday, 04 May 2010
Uppsala, Sweden, May 4th 2010: The innovation’s firm Imint – Image Intelligence AB, showcase its video enhancement technology by publicizing improved imagery from US Coast Guard aerial footage from Deepwater Horizon oil rig disaster
Imint has in a short time established themselves as a software innovation leader within the market for real-time video processing from aerial reconnaissance systems, both manned and unmanned (UAV). Imint’s lead product Ihvert® encapsulates the latest research in motion image improvement algorithms and in a way that enables its use in real-time and in ordinary performance-constrained portable systems.
Imint is now showcasing its technology by presenting enhanced aerial surveillance videos from the oil rig incident on April 21st, 2010, where the rig Deepwater Horizon outside the coast of Louisiana were severely damaged from an explosion and subsequent fire. The video originates from the US Coast Guard, and the clips have been widely showed on most major news corporation sites. Imint has used its product Ihvert® to enhance the video, and present the result in own video snippets on YouTube. Imint’s own video shows the original video to the left, and the greatly enhanced video to the right. The effect is readily visible with improved contrast and an almost fully stabilized video. Especially aerial surveillance videos are prone to reduced video quality due to turbulence and vehicle vibrations, which might cause loss of vital image information.
”It is noteworthy that our product solves a very delicate problem mainly originating from hardware and mechanics, with an all-software approach that enables real-time video enhancement. We have optimized our algorithms to enable our product to run on a standard lap-top”, commented Andreas Lifvendahl, Director of Sales & Marketing at Imint. Lifvendahl added: “The video on the right hand side could be the video the operator on board or at the ground would be seeing while gathering intelligence. An obvious realization is that improved situational awareness through enhanced video can be crucial in other contexts; it could be the difference between distinguish between a tri-pod and a rifle, or a fisherman and a pirate”.
Imint is a Swedish innovation’s company originating from University of Uppsala’s image processing research. Imint has specialized in real-time video improvement and analysis software, primarily for the UAV market. Main product Ihvert® is a software suite that can run on Remote Viewing Terminals or Ground Control Stations, to receive, study, analyze and communicate video intelligence. Ihvert provides functions like video stabilization, noise reduction, contrast enhancement, automatic image mosaicing, target locking, etc. Through Ihvert, Imint offers benefits to its customers both through video improvements providing quicker and more reliable detection and recognition, and through cost reductions, as alternative solutions are more expensive and adds extra weight – thereby limiting the economics of operation.
