Uppsala company IMINT has under a research grant from “Vinnova” developed a software that allows for automatic tracking of moving objects in video.
The newly developed technology will complement the recently launched software Ihvert®which is designed to substantially improve the quality of video from aerial reconnaissance systems. Video is enhanced in real time by the software and now it also includes a tracking function.
"Automated tracking is essential for camera operators who can concentrate on the analysis of the video rather than control of the camera," says Harald Klomp, CEO of Imint AB.
The newly developed technology was tested during the recent Swedeish Armed Forces full scale demonstration tests in Karlsborg. The targets that were tracked were helicopters and aircraft. The test were conducted with an advanced EO/IR camera called "Ranger HRC Multi Sensor" from FLIR Systems. Ihvert® software controls the systems pan and tilt head. The EO and IR cameras both allow for up to 40 times zoom. The system also has a laser range finder and GPS for accurate target location.
"Cooperation with both Vinnova, FLIR and the Armed Forces have been crucial to the success of the project," says Harald Klomp further.
